Violet ‘Vi’ Bowen

Violet Cooper Bowen, 78 of Malad, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 1994, following sudden heart failure.

She was born September 12, 1916, in Wellsville, Utah, a daughter of Levi P. and Maggie Archibald Cooper. She was raised and educated in Wellsville, and was a graduate of South Cache High School.

She married Darwin A. “Ted” Bowen September 27, 1940, in Spanish Fork, Utah, and for a short time they lived in Salt Lake City, Utah. While her husband served in the armed forces during World Ward II, she worked in Orlando, Florida for Remington Arms Co.

After the war they moved to the family farm in Holbrook, where they resided for many years. She had worked for the Malad school lunch program for 17 years, and for the past several years they had resided in Malad.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had served in Relief Society and MIA.

She is survived by her husband, Ted Bowen, of Malad; one son and his wife, John Alden and Peggy Bowen, of Salt Lake City, Utah; one daughter and her husband, Claudia and Leslie Dean Hughes, of Big Piney, Wyoming; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother Mark and Donna Cooper , of Hyrum, Utah; and three sisters, Mrs. Farren (Larene) Peterson of Sandy, Utah, Margaret Bennett and Mrs. Chuck (Eva) Cristelli of West Weber, Utah, and Mrs. Dee (Donna) Stoddard of Wellsville, Utah.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 29, 1994, in the Malad LDS State Building with Bishop Jared Crowther officiating. Burial was in the Holbrook Cemetery.
