VERNA VAUGHN IS KILLED IN STREET CAR ACCIDENT

A sad accident occurred last Friday in Independence, Mo., when Varna, little three years and nine-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Vaughn of this city, was hit by a streetcar and killed. The little one had just gone out of her mother’s sight and was playing with a ball which rolled out into the street and while the child was attempting to get it she was struck by the car. The conductor stated that he noticed the ball, but did not notice the child until she reached out her hand to get the ball and had been picked up and thrown into the air, coming down with such force that her skull was cracked.

The mother ran out, but found the child fatally injured. She was taken to the house and medical attention given, but she lived only about twenty minutes. The body was shipped Friday accompanied by Mrs. Vaughn, her mother, Mrs. Henry Daniels, and daughter, Lizzie.

Mr. Vaughn had Just returned to Malad the night before the accident happened and Mrs. Vaughn and the children expected to return in a month.

This was an extremely sad blow to the family and the sympathy of the people of the community is extended to the bereaved ones.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at the Malad Opera house..
