Vern Camp dies in California

Former Malad resident, Vern Camp, son of the late Leo M. and Eunice Camp, brother of Virginia Goddard, died at his home in Redding, California, Saturday, May 31. (1980)

He was born in Malad April 25, 1921. He received his early schooling in Utah and in the local Malad schools, later going into the service and attaining the rank of Lieutenant in the Navy. During World War II he piloted corsair planes. When he left the service he worked in San Francisco, later moving to Redding, California in 1950 and opening the “Camp Surplus Store” which he owned and operated until his death.

He was a member of the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce for 20 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, 1073; Moose Lodge, 1006; VFW Post 1930; and Retail Clerks Local, 1364, all of Redding.

Survivors include sons, David of Redding, Calif.; Michael of Sacramento, Calif.; sisters, Virginia Goddard, Malad; Maureen Camp Thomas, Ontario, California; brothers, Wilson Camp, Arlera, Calif.; Marne Camp, N.Y. City; and Richard Camp, Pinole, Calif. He was preceded in death by a brother, Irving.

The funeral services were held Wednesday, June 4, at McDonald Redding Chapel.

Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Virginia Goddard, Malad; Bill Hill, Downey; Mr. and Mrs. Don Moreland of Highland, California; Lois Marrow of Mojaive, (sp Mojave) California; Marne Camp and daughter Maureen Camp, Bronx, New York; Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Camp and son Don of Arlera, California; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Camp, Rich, Michelle and Madelanie of the Bay Area; Mr. and Mrs. Monte Thomas, Ontario, California.

The services were conducted by Bishop Glenn Davis of Summit, California with brother Maren (sp Marne) Camp giving the eulogy. Concluding rites were at the Redding Cemetery with interment at the Redding Cemetery.
