Velda Williams Jones, 24 June 1921

SOUTH OGEN, UT – Velda Williams Jones, beloved daughter of her Heavenly Father, was finally called home on August 23, 2003 while being lovingly cared for by her daughter Reta in Elko, Nevada.

She was born June 24, 1921 in Malad, ID, a daughter of David J. and Ester “Essie” Katherine Munsee Williams, and grew up in Malad City.

On April 21, 1941 Velda married Lenn Jones in Reno, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Lenn passed away December 11, 1987.

Early in her marriage she lived in Reno, NV and various cities in California. She and her husband then lived in Dallas, TX, Kemmer, WY and settled in the Ogden area.

Velda was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including Jr. Sunday School coordinator, Trekker Leader and most recently the S piritual Living teacher in Relief Society. She was the director of the Dallas Stake Institute for Teacher Training and supported her husband with his many callings. Velda received her Golden Gleaner Award and she and Lenn served together in the Ogden Temple.

Velda loved so many things in this world – the Gospel, her sweetheart, her family and her home. She surrounded herself with beautiful books of the Gospel, great literature, poetry, art and music. She enjoyed traveling throughout the world with her husband, and later with her son.

She will be missed by one son and two daughters: Denton Lenn Jones, Houston, TX; Judy Jones (Arthur) Jackman, West Jordan, UT; Reta Jones (David) Loreman, Spring Creek, NV; eight grandchildren: Kendall, David, Scott, Kate, Robert, Elizabeth, Austin and Travis; and nine great grandchildren.

She will also be missed by her sister, Norma W. Forsberg, Riverside, UT; her brother-in-law, Max L. Jones, Gardnerville, NV; and many loved nieces, nephews and friends.

She is now with her sweetheart, parents, one brother, Berton E. Williams, and three sisters, Katie W. Hughes, Reta W. Nelson and Margie W. Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held August 28 at the South Ogden 7th Ward Chapel with Bishop Ron Watkins officiating.

The dedication of the grave will be a the Malad City Cemetery.
