Tressie Young Heilsen, 95 died July 1, 1995, in the Oneida County Nursing Home of heart failure.
She was the eldest child born to Charles Young and Adrianna Wilson Young at Twin Groves, Idaho on may 26, 1900. She attended schools in St. Anthony, Idaho, where she was active in drama and debate and also served as captain of the girls basketball team.
Tressie married James Milton Heilesen on June 9, 1920 in the Salt lake LDS Temple. They lived in Burton, Idaho for over 50 years where they farmed and raised many varieties of fruits and vegetables. She had a beautiful flower garden that was admired by all. For many years, she sold flowers for Memorial Day. The Rexburg ward always had a bouquet from her garden from spring until the last flower was gone.
She belonged to the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers and has held many positions in the LDS church. For many years, both in Rexburg and Malad, she taught the Gospel Doctrine and Theology in Sunday School and relief Society. She served as Young Womens President and has been a member of several stake boards. Tressie and Milton served an LDS mission to Gesseys, Georgia in 1960. She worked for several years in the Idaho Falls Temple.
In 1973, Tressie moved to Malad to live near her daughter, Kathy Ipsen. She loved the people in Malad and made many friends there. She loved matching wits with Myron Sorenson in the Gospel Doctrine class in Sunday School. She also had a close relationship with Tommy Thorpe who drove her to Senior Citizens Center. She became very close to the Ipsen family and they were like her own, They loved and respected her as their second mother.
She will be remembered for her unwavering testimony and for never missing a chance to bear it in Fast and Testimony meetings.
Tressie is survived by a son, Grant M. Heilesen and wife Joyce, Layton, Utah; five daughters, four son in laws, Carma Farley, St. Anthony , Idaho; Jeaninne Sorensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; her parents, two sisters and two brothers, a daughter Opal Clayton; two son-in-laws, Melvin Sorensen and Harold Farley. She has 29 grandchildren, and 86 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening, July 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. At the Bensen-Horsley funeral Home in Malad, Idaho and on Friday morning July 7, 1995 at 11 a.m. In the Malad Second Ward. Interment will be in the Burton Cemetery.
