Thomas Johnston

DUBOIS – Thomas Robert Johnston Jr., 63, of Dubois, died Oct. 20, 1992, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center following a lingering illness. He was born Aug. 18, 1928, at Menan, to Thomas Robert and Helen L. Schneiter Johnston. He attended schools in Menan and Midway High School. He served in the U.S. Army for two years.

On Aug. 15, 1948, he married Vesta Opal Barney at Menan. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He had worked for several years at the U.S. Experimental Sheep Station north of Dubois. He was a paramedic and was instrumental in organizing the Dubois ambulance service. He was an active member of the LDS Church. He was serving as president of the Dubois Lions Club at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife of Dubois; children, Mrs. Dale (Betty) Fullmer of Idaho Falls, Mrs. Kevin (Penny) Seamons of Blackfoot, Thomas D. Johnston of Malad, and Harold R. Johnston of Rawlins, Wyo.; his mother, Helen Younstrom of Menan; four sisters and three brothers, Mrs. Dan (Ellen) Walker of Rigby, Mrs. Bob (Shirley) Sager, Mrs. Gary (Gae) Bates, Mrs. Tom (Fern) Hall, Ralph Johnston and Frank Johnston, all of Idaho Falls, and Earl Johnston of Pocatello; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Beaver Creek LDS Church in Dubois with Bishop David Leonardson officiating. The family will meet with friends Friday from 7:30 to 9 p m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and Saturday from 11.30 a.m. to 12:30 pm at the church. Burial will be in Dubois Cemetery.
