TEKLA MANSFIELD

MALAD, Idaho — Just four days before her 88th birthday, Tekla Maria Holm Mansfield, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, closed her eyes for the last time on this earth and went peacefully to join her husband and son. She was greatly loved, she will be greatly missed.

Tekla Marie Ingeborg Holm Mansfield, better known as “Tek” was born June 1, 1904 in Bingham Canyon, Utah, daughter of Jakob and Marie Rodes Holm. She attended schools in Park City and worked at the Park Hotel.

She married George W. Mansfield, Aug. 6. 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah. George preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1966.

Soon after their marriage, she and George moved to Oneida County (Samaria-Ireland Canyon) to take over operation of the family farm. She was a homemaker, helped George with all aspects of farm life, the insurance business, and participated in civic and neighborhood projects.

She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, fishing and gardening. She was an avid reader, educating herself far beyond her formal schooling.

She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Hyrum (Marie) Peterson, North Ogden; Mrs. O.O. “Toad” (Elaine) Bohn, Malad, Idaho; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren, four step great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Tura Springer, Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Vera Derry, SLC; Mrs. Leona Simpson, Copperton; a brother, Carl Holm, Stockton, Utah; and many good friends and neighbors on Samaria Lane.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Axel and Felix and one son, George Richard Mansfield killed in WWII.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 12 noon in the Malad 1st Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Malad, this evening from 7 to 9 p.m and Monday one hour prior to service. Burial in the Malad City Cemetery.
