Sylvia Smith Fife

FIFE, SYLVIA SMITH, October (?), 1882 – (?), 1959

LOGAN – Mother of a Malad woman was killed Wednesday morning about 11:45 when a car driven by her daughter left the highway and rammed into a tree. Dead on arrival at the Logan LDS Hospital was Mrs. Sylvia Fife, 77, Providence, Cache County, Utah. She was a passenger in the car driven by Mrs. Blanche Shepherd, Malad.

According to a statement given to investigating officers, Mrs. Shepherd had been in Salt Lake City visiting her husband, Lewis Shepherd, who recently had major surgery. She had been up most of Tuesday night and fell asleep while returning her mother to Providence.

The accident occurred just west of the intersection of 2nd North and 4th West in Logan. The Shepherd car was traveling east and crossed the west bound lane, jumped the curb, struck a fire hydrant and slammed into the tree.

Mrs. Fife was dead on arrival and Mrs. Shepherd was being treated for head and mouth injuries.

Sylvia Smith Fife, was born at Hyrum, Utah, October, 1882, a daughter of Joseph M. and Josephine Anderson Smith. She was married on September 28, 1903 to Walter D. Fife at Hyrum. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Fife died march 12, 1959.

Surviving are one son and four daughters: Lamont Fife, Nyssa, OR; Coy Fife, Arlington, VA; Mrs. Reed (Lucille) Campbell, Dayton, ID; Mrs. Lewis (Blanche) Shepherd, Malad; Mrs. Helen Dahl, Salt Lake City; ten grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters.
