HARDMAN, SYLVIA BAILEY – March 23, 1916 – September 30, 2006

Sylvia Bailey Hardman, 90, of Pocatello, died Saturday, September 30, 2006, peacefully at her home in Pocatello.

She was born on March 23, 1916 in Arbon Valley, Idaho, to Lorenzo Hawkins Bailey and Chloe Facer Bailey and was the sixth child of ten children. She attended elementary school at Arbon and graduated from the 8th grade. She continued her education at Irving Jr. High and Pocatello High School.

She moved to Ogden to reside with her sister and brother-in-law. There she took finishing courses in cosmetics and charm school and worked at Wrights Department Store in Ready to Wear and Cosmetics.

She married Russell Gwen Hardman on September 28, 1935 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on October 31, 1964. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on September 28, 2005. They moved to Arbon Valley where they took over the family farm. For 45 years they lived in Arbon in the summer and Pocatello in the winter. They were blessed with three children, Marlene, Dixie and Dennis.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in the church, but especially liked her time in the primary as a teacher.

She was employed at Fargo’s Department Store and also took up nursing later as a new career, which she enjoyed very much. She retired to take care of her mother who was very ill. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with her family at reunions and holidays.

She is survived by her children, Marlene Croft, Dixie (Mike) Larkin of Pocatello, and Dennis Hardman, of Nampa, Idaho; 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Hardman; and son-in-law Jim L. Croft; her mother and father and other family members.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at the LDS Oakwood Chapel with Bishop Ryan Hancock conducting. A visitation will be held from 7:00 -9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at Colonia Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
