LITTLEFIELD, ARIZ. — Sherrill Jean (Yeates) Williams passed away Oct. 26, 2014, at her home in Littlefield, Arizona, from complications due to diabetes. She was 72 years old. Sherrill was born Jan. 20, 1942, in Sacramento, California, to Vern Wendell and Hazel (Richards) Yeates. She was raised in Malad City, Idaho. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and since a teenager had played the organ at various times throughout her life for church services, weddings and funerals. She competed in the Miss Malad City beauty pageant in 1959 and won the Miss Congeniality recognition.
She was married Oct. 6, 1960, to Vanez LeRoy Hawkes. They had two children, Devan Troy and Kayelene Dawn Hawkes. They were sealed as a family in the LDS Temple in Logan on June 11, 1964. They were later divorced.
Following divorce, Sherrill relocated with her two children to California. She worked for the California Department of Corrections and retired after over 25 years of service.
She had remarried three times: Saul Trauner (deceased); Allen Dale Sage of San Bernardino, California; and Mark Russell Williams, the latter being her husband for over 26 years. The last several years she has required a lot of care, and Mark has taken care of her and was there caring for her when she passed away.
Sherrill is survived by her husband, Mark Williams, of Littlefield, Arizona; her children Devan Hawkes of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; and Kayelene (Kendall) Hornberger of Orem, Utah; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren with two more due in 2015; and her siblings: Vern Wendell (Gail) Yeates Jr. of Dubois, Wyoming; Richard (Joan) Yeates of Vancouver, Washington; Garth (Bobbie) Yeates of Riverton, Wyoming; and Joycelyn (Randy) Vest of Payson, Utah. Her parents preceded her in death.
A service to celebrate her life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at North Logan 12th Ward, 2540 N. 400 East in Logan. There will be a viewing prior to the services from 12-12:45 p.m. Following the service, she will be interred near her parents at the Logan City Cemetery.
