Shelby Melvin Watts, 97, of Rockland died Wednesday morning at Harms Memorial Hospital in American Falls.
He was born Dec. 18, 1899, the son of Charles Edgar and Catherine Lorene Pittman Watts. He married Elizabeth Lillis Straw on June 16, 1935, in Santa Ana, Calif., and they made their home in Long Beach, Calif. She preceded him in death on April 22, 1974.
He enjoyed reading, hunting and fishing. He was an avid rock hound and an excellent marksman, especially with a hand gun. He was a member of Long Beach Rock and Gem Club, CA Miners Association, a charter member of the Rockland Lions Club and the American Legion Post 78 in Rockland. He had served on the Rockland Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by one daughter, Beryl Robin (Stephen) Wegner of Rockland; one brother, Willard Watts of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren, Tanna, Jon, Mark, Matthew, Scott and Christina; ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at the Valley View Cemetery, Rockland, with Pastor Scott Harris officiating.
