Sheila Ann Dorius Brown, beloved wife of Thomas Harold Brown, passed away in Provo, Utah on August 9, 2016. Sheila was born August 31, 1934, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edwin Jennings Dorius and Elda Hughes Dorius, but spent much of her youth in Carbon County Utah, Orange County, California, and Malad, Idaho. She graduated from Provo High School, and received a B.A. degree in Education from Brigham Young University. Sheila married Thomas Harold Brown in the Salt” Lake City LDS Temple on June 30, 1955. Afterward, living in Champaign, Illinois while her husband Tom completed a doctoral degree, she gave birth to Emma Rebecca, John Bradley, and Alison Leigh. Sheila and Tom returned to Provo, Utah when Tom accepted a professorship at Brigham Young University. Her fourth child Thomas Christopher, and her sixth child Michael Harold were born in Provo, Utah. Her fifth child Elizabeth Ann, was born in the Canary Islands, where Tom was on sabbatical leave.
She served an LDS mission from 1969-72 with her husband as Mission leaders of the LDS Franco-Belgium, mission. She always had fond memories of the mission experience, raising their young children in Europe, and traveling to the Canary Islands, French Martinique, Tunisia, and other BYU semester abroad programs in Europe and Canada.
In her younger years, Sheila especially enjoyed playing tennis and attending plays. She was a member of a women’s social club, the Les Belles Amies Society. At age 50 Sheila became partially paralyzed with a stroke, which limited her mobility, but did not dampen her love and pride for her children and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed the quiz show Jeopardy, her extensive library, Coca Cola, chocolates and Utah Jazz basketball She also had a fondness for cobalt blue vases and European pewter.
Sheila had a very sweet demeanor, a beautiful smile, and a gentle sense of humor. She will be missed by all, including 13 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
Sheila is survived by her children John Bradley Brown (Jolie Blanchard) of Arlington, Virginia; Alison Leigh Brown (Eben Hewitt) soon of Dallas, Texas; Thomas Christopher Brown of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Elizabeth Ann Brown and Michael Harold Brown (Sheri Dayley) of Provo; and sisters Sydney Dorius Worthen (Gordon) of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Stephanie Dorius Clayton (William) of Lindon, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Thomas Harold Brown; daughter, Emma Rebecca Brown Thomas of Provo, Utah; her infant grandson, John Wilding Thomas; and her brother, Robert Delano Dorius of Malad City, Idaho.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016 at East Lawn Memorial Hills, 4800 North 650 East, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Friday, August 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Private Family meeting Saturday, 10-10:50 a.m. at Berg Drawing Room Chapel prior to services at the cemetery.
