Ruth Jones Dives

Ruth Jones Dives, 98, of Malad, died Tuesday, March 1, 1994 in Malad.

She was born October 1, 1895, in Malad, a daughter of Daniel “T” and Mary Jane Thomas Jones. She grew up and was educated in Malad. As a young woman she worked for the Great Northern Hotel and Peck’s Hotel.

She married Thomas Dives July 6, 1914, in Malad, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple in 1922. Mr. Dives died December 14, 1976.

She and her husband had owned and operated Dives Furniture Company in Malad, and she had worked there for 66 years. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she had served as a teacher in the Primary and Sunday School. She also was a member of the Oneida County War Mothers.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Ren and Lorraine Dives of Malad; four daughters and spouses, Mrs. Elden (Alicia) Bingham of Washington, Utah; Mrs. Margie Pierce of Aberdeen, Mrs. Phil (Ivalou) Young of Blackfoot, and Mrs. John (Verlene) Williams of Malad; 28 grandchildren, 111 great-grandchildren, 42 great-great-grandchildren; also surviving is one brother, Max Jones of Gardnerville, Nevada; one sister, Fern Vanover of Malad. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, six sisters, seven brothers, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday. March 5, in the Malad First Ward Chapel with Bishop Jared Crowther officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
