RONALD W. WILLIAMS

POCATELLO – Ronald W. Williams, 91, died Friday, October 7, 2005, at this home with his wife of 64 years and his three children at his side.

Ronald was born May 26, 1914, in Malad, Idaho, the sixth of seven children of Benjamin Thomas and Rachel Williams Williams.

He graduated from Malad High School in 1933.

For three years during the month of August he spent time at the Citizens Military Training Corps (CMTC) at Fort Douglas, Utah, where he first started boxing and was selected as “All Around Athlete for Excellence in Track and Field.” He won many trophies and awards during that time.

After high school in 1934, he joined the Civil Conservation Corp (CCC) for a short time and then enrolled at Weber State College for one year. In 1935 he began working at the Union Pacific Railroad.

He married Margaret Goodman July 5, 1941, in Preston, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 8, 1953.

During World War II Ronald served in the 734th Railway Operation Battalion seeing that supplies and ammunition reached the front lines. Upon returning from the war, he took an auto mechanics course at Idaho State College. He was shop foreman for the Bush Motor Company for 17 years. When they closed, he went back to work for the railroad, retiring in 1979.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in Bishoprics and as a Stake and Ward clerk. He served a mission at the Family History Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ronald was a fun-loving family man. He enjoyed playing card games and lawn games. No one could beat him at horseshoes. He loved camping, fishing and hunting. Taking the grandkids fishing was a highlight of his life. Ronald was a friend to everyone and was always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

His survivors are grateful to have had him with them these many years. They are his loving wife, Margaret, his daughters, Judy (Don) Harris, Pocatello, Idaho; Ronda (Pete) Black, Pocatello, a son, Lowell (Jill) Williams, Fruit Heights, Utah; seven grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday Oct. 11, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Alameda 9th Ward Chapel, 1440 Lakeview Drive, with Bishop Rick Fawcett officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery with military graveside rites provided by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard.
