Roma Gene Thurston Alder

Roma Gene Thurston Alder, 85, of Malad and wife of Conrad C. Alder, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2008. She was born September 10, 1922 in Logan, Utah, the oldest daughter of Stephen James and Ethlyn Alice Wood Thurston. Roma Gene was raised in Hyde Park, Utah. She graduated from North Cache High School in 1940 and continued her education at Utah State University where she met her sweetheart, Conrad C. Alder. They were married January 28, 1943 in the Logan LDS Temple, and had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.

Roma Gene enjoyed cooking, reading and following the activities of her family. She loved being surrounded by her husband and family including grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had served in many capacities including visiting teacher, Sunday school teacher and Relief Society teacher. She also served in the Family History Center – Spanish Extraction program, as well as ward and stake Young Womens President. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Malad Fine Arts Club, the Oneida County Hospital Pink Ladies, and served as a co-director for the Miss Malad Pageant for over 20 years.

She is survived by her husband Conrad; her children; Marsha (Terry) Jones; Conrad (Jean) Alder; Alyce (Bill) Lewis; and Scott (Robyn) Alder. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her sister Lucinda Nilson, and her brother Stephen Wood Thurston.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 27 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 6th Ward Chapel. Burial followed in the Malad City Cemetery.
