ROBERT L. SWEETEN

Dr. Robert L. Sweeten passed away at his home on September 1, 2012 at the age of 96. He was born February 23, 1916 in Holbrook, ID, the fourth child of ten, born to Warren Hugh and Lila Howard Sweeten. He married his beautiful and cherished Phyllis Karpowitz on November 22, 1939 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Robert had a great desire to serve God. He served four missions, three of them with his eternal companion.

Our devoted and handsome father lived a full and multi-faceted life. Dad’s talents, perfectionism, and work ethic were evident in everything he did. Dad excelled in dentistry, artwork, singing in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and building family gathering places (Mom dreamed it and Dad built it).

Throughout his life, Dad enjoyed horseback riding, skiing, golfing, painting, wood carving, reading, learning, teaching, storytelling, unique people and observing nature. Dad loved arm wrestling and his two dogs Ziggy and Cooper. He shared all of this with his family.

He is survived by children: Robert (Deyanne) Sweeten, Toi (Dennis) Nielsen, Heidi Sweeten, Becky (Blaine) Smith, Trace Sweeten; 16 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; brother, Lyle (Carol) Sweeten; sister, Bonnie Snow; sister-in-law, Doris Sweeten.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Phyllis; sisters, Genevieve Williams, Claudia Atkinson, Cheri Warrington; and brothers, Hugh, Gee, Dewey and haggle.

Funeral services will be held September 5, 2012 at the Valley View Stake Center. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
