Richard D. Dredge

BOISE – Richard David Dredge, 92, of Meridian, formerly of the Upper Snake River Valley, died Feb. 28, 1992, at a Boise health care center.

He was born Sept. 15, 1899, at Malad to Richard Henry and’ Esther Marilla Heward Dredge. When he was 7, he moved with his family to Sugar City, where he attended schools. Many of his early years were spent in the Newdale area.

On Nov. 19, 1920, he married Aileen Graham at St. Anthony. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple on June 14, 1933. They had a sheep ranch and farmed in Newdale before moving to Coltman to continue ranching. In 1948 they moved to Caldwell, where he began a registered Hereford cattle business. He operated it until he retired. The past few years were spent near his daughter in Meridian.

He was an active member of the LDS Church and had served as superintendent of the Sunday school and as a stake missionary. He was also a member of the Purebred Hereford Breeders Association.

Survivors include his wife of Meridian; children, Mrs. Harold (Phillis Coy) Biscoe of Meridian and Mrs. Grant (Betty) Klingler of Newdale; five brothers and two sisters, Roy Dredge and Doyle Dredge, both of Shelley, Talbert Dredge of St. Helens, Ore., Jay Dredge of Las Vegas, Clair Dredge of Roy, Utah, Luella Pherson of Rupert, and Ruth Hogan of Jordan, Utah; 11 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter and four brothers.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Meridian LDS Ten-Mile Church with Bishop Leslie Bills of the Meridian 2nd Ward officiating. The family will meet with friends Thursday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in the Caldwell City Cemetery. Arrangements are through Manning Funeral Home in Pocatello and Relyea Funeral Home in Boise.
