Raeo LaVar Passey passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home Saturday, June 12th from complications due to cancer. He was 84. Raeo was born April 24, 1926, in Oneida, Idaho, to George Iland Passey and Pearl Evangeline Wallentine. He was the third of five siblings.
Upon graduating from West High School in 1945, Raeo served his country during World War 11 as a U.S. Navy Electrician’s Mate on sub-tenders. He served an LDS mission to the North Central States Mission, then went on to marry his high school sweetheart, our beloved mother, Lila Miles Passey in the Salt Lake Temple.
Raeo graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in education, and had a long career with the Federal Aviation Administration.
As a young child Raeo was inquisitive, and he never lost that yearning to learn something new everyday. He was an avid reader and prolific writer. Raeo in most remembered by his family as a husband and father who was forthright and honest, a man who was true to his beliefs, who didn’t compromise his principles and values. Raeo is survived by his wife, Lila L. Passey; his brothers Robert Passey (Loraine); his sister, Nadine Willis (Ken); Lisa Gerber (Steve); and Robin Passey; 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday June 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Union Fort 5th Ward at 6770 South 500 East, Midvale, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah and also at the ward one hour prior to services Thursday. Raeo will be buried at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
