Norma Tingey Bott

BRIGHAM CITY – Norma Tingey Bott passed away at the home of her daughter in Kaysville, Utah. She was born September 2, 1920 in Willard, Utah at the home of her grandparents to Elmo Irin and Violet Barker Tingey. Norma has suffered from ill health for several years and has been bedridden since November of 2007. We rejoice in her reunion with her beloved husband and parents and other loved family members.

Norma lived all her life in Box Elder County. She attended school in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School. She married Eugene Bott on November 4, 1938. Together they raised three sons and five daughters giving them love, training and skills which enabled them to build successful homes of their own. Above all they gave them a knowledge of their Savior and a love for His Gospel. They were tireless workers on farms in Bear River, Perry and Honeyville.

Norma was the heart of their home. Her excellent sewing skills provided ample clothing for her family including many formal gowns. Her daughters never received a doll without a full set of doll clothes and grandchildren enjoyed robes, pajamas and stuffed animals. Only when her children were on their own, did she work in the school lunch program. Later years of abundant reading were put to good use as an employee of the local book store.

She loved nature and the out of doors, flowers and anything to do with the mountains. Their relaxation was a drive in the mountains and exploring back country roads just to see where this will take us. There was very little of Utah they didn’t explore. Her paintings of the scenes she sketched on their drives are prized possessions of her family. A light went out of her life when a stroke disabled her hands, ending her painting and took away her ability to read.

She served many years as a teacher in the Primary and for 25 years on the Stake Primary Board. She also served in Relief Society as a class leader, counselor and president and was a visiting teacher for over 50 years. She and Eugene served as missionaries in the Brigham City Tabernacle and also served as Temple missionaries.

Norma is survived by her children, Patricia (Max) Hirschi, Heber (Bonnie) Bott, Margaret (Jim) Coleman, Kathleen (Frank) Martin, Dorthy (Parris) Neal, Elizabeth (Russell deceased) Price, Richard (Julie) Bott and Jim (Lola) Bott. She also leaves 40 grandchildren and 81 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene, her parents, brother, Richard Dale (Pauline) Tingey; sister, LaRene (Wayne deceased) Voiz, grandson, Daniel Price, son-in-law, Russel Price; daughters-in-law, Judy Bott and Debbie Bott.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Brighm City 4th Ward. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
