Norma Miller James, 26 October 1924

Norma Miller James died at her home in Provo, Utah on June 5, 1996. She was born on October 26, 1924 in Springville, UT to Fred J. and Eva Black Miller.

She attended school in Hyrum, UT where she graduated from South Cache High School. Later she was a special vocal musical student at Utah State University, a student nurse at St. Benedicts Hospital in Ogden, UT, and also took courses at the University of Nebraska. Throughout her life she has been an active and devoted member of the LDS Church, having served in stake and ward Relief Society presidencies and as a Primary and Sunday School teacher. With her husband she served a temple mission and later served for three years as assistant matron in the Chicago LDS Temple.

She married Garth A. James on December 26, 1947. Together they have lived in Malad City, ID; Logan, UT; Hayward, CA; Lincoln, NB; Glenview, IL; and moved to Provo, UT in 1991. At all times Norma has been a devoted wife and mother and ideal homemaker as her greatest responsibility. She viewed her role as wife, mother, and homemaker as her greatest responsibility. She made her home a place of refinement where all were welcome. She enjoyed caring for her yard and the flowers that she lovingly cared for. Over the years she has opened her home and heart to people both young and old who needed love and caring. Some have stayed hours, some days and some years. To all she was a mother and a care giver.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Garth A. James of Provo; six sons, R. Brent (DeeNise) James of Sandy, UT; David G. (Rhonda) James of Arvada, CO; Dr. Fred M. (Reesa) James of Lincoln, NB; Dr. Richard N. (Marsha) James of Winfield, KS; Dr. J. Sydney (Susan) James of Las Vegas, NV; and Dr. N. Whitney (Cheryl) James of Aloha, OR; one daughter, Eva Kristine (Steven D.) Harop of Brookfield, Wisconsin, and a foster daughter, Sandy Fry of Mt. Pleasant, UT; 47 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; a twin brother, Norris F. Miller of Bountiful, UT and a sister, Mrs. Billie Faye Nielsen of Los Gatos, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Jacob S. James.

Funeral services were held June 8, 1996 at the Provo 11th Ward LDS Chapel. Interment was held in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.
