Nolan James Tuck, (1919)

NOLAN JAMES TUCK

BRIGHAM CITY – Our father, Nolan James Tuck, 85, passed away on April 3, 2005. He died peacefully in the company of his family.

Dad was born June 22, 1919 in St. Anthony, Idaho. He was the second child of Rosella Archibald and Eldridge A. Tuck.

Growing up on a farm in Chinook, Montana with his three brothers and three sisters, provided lots of happy memories and a strong work ether. He had his first paying job as a turkey herder at age six and continued working many jobs to earn money to buy his own 160-acre farm before he graduated from high school.

Dad was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many ward and stake positions.

Nolan married Marie Troxel on October 28, 1938 in Havre, Montana. They were blessed with one daughter before Marie passed away May 1941.

Nelda Pedersen came into his life after he moved to Ogden, Utah with his daughter to work. They were married on July 31, 1942 in the Logan Utah Temple. Blessing continued with five additional daughters and two sons.

Dad served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II in a special unit training pilots.

For 29 years Dad was a well-known and respected businessman in the retail drug store industry. His career included managing stores for Payless, Sav-On and Super Save Drugs.

A dream came to fruition in 1968 when Dad, Mom and the kids opened the Ambassador Toy and Gift store, and later expanded to Ambassador Drug and Gift.

I doesn’t happen in many families, but each child had the opportunity to work with Dad. It was during those long hours at the stores where we learned the lessons about honesty, hard work, sacrifice kindness and charity to others.

After suffering for years from cancer, Mom passed away in November 1973.

Dad sold his business prior to marrying Lillith Jones on August 10, 1976. They made their home in Brigham City, Utah, where he enjoyed his large garden, fruit trees and flower gardens. He was very clever at making and building things in his wood shop.

Dad and Lil enjoyed traveling. They went to Africa, took a Mediterranean cruise and traveled with the Good Samers. They traveled all over the country to visit their 13 children and families.

They served two temple missions in the Ogden Utah Temple. Lil passed away in February 2000.

Dad is survived by his sisters, Lola Keyes, Ogden, UT; Shirley Beth (Dan) Stokes, Paulden, AZ; eight children Arlene (Fred) Norton, Vancouver, WA; Armelia (Gordon) Johnson, Taylor, UT; James Tuck, Helena, MT; JeNae (Dennis) Lay, Helena, MT; Carol (Tony) Smith, Helena, MT; Wayne (Theresa) Tuck, Johnstown, PA; Linda (Grant Emo) VanderVeur; Salt Lake, UT; and Diane Tuck, Brigham City, UT, and 27 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
