Melvin Joseph Davis

Melvin Joseph Davis, 66, of Samaria, Idaho, died Monday evening August 2, 1993 of injuries sustained in a three-wheeler, pickup accident.

He was born April 10, 1927 in Samaria to Melvin Martin and Mabel Williams Davis. He attend school in Samaria and graduated from Malad High School. He graduated with a Bachelors degree in education from Utah State University and later received a Masters degree from the same. He also served six months in the U.S. Army at Fort Roberts, California.

Joe married Hannah Joan Davis in 1951. They were later divorced.
On July 29, 1957, he married Emma Louise Carter in the Logan LDS Temple.

Joe was respected and loved teacher for 41 years in the Oneida School District. His influence was felt by many, and he will be greatly missed by both students and colleagues.

He loved the land and enjoyed farming and caring for animals. He was a loving father and grandfather, and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

He was a lifelong, active member of the LDS Church, serving as Ward Clerk, High Councilman, Bishop and in various other capacities.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Louise, of Samaria; a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Jacqueline Roe) Olson of Preston; a son, Major Melvin Jeffrey Davis MD (and wife, Lisa) of Landstuhl, Germany, serving as a U.S. Army physician; one brother, Lynn Ray (and wife, JoAnn ) Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah; two aunts, Rae Williams of Samaria and Mary Stephens of North Ogden; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson and his parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 6, at 12 Noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, Bishop Rex Robbins, officiating. Friends may call at the Stake Building on Thursday from 6:00-9:30 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Samaria Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Ernest W. Jones Post #65. Arrangements by Benson-Horsley Funeral Home.
