Melvin Emanuel Castleton

TREMONTON – Melvin Emanuel Castleton, 98, died June 2, 1998 at the Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton. He was born March 14, 1900 in Salt Lake City, the son of Arthur Robert and Ellen Wooley Castleton. He married Ruth Getz February 16, 1930 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized February 16, 1955 in the Logan LDS Temple. They enjoyed 57 years together before she passed away May 15, 1987.

Mel was reared and educated in Pleasant View and Malad, Idaho. As a youth during the summer, he studied violin in Salt Lake City and helped his grandmother where she operated the first store in the avenues. He was employed by the railroad in Idaho and Montana for 10 years as a telegraph operator. Later he worked in groceries in Tremonton and Garland for many years. After retiring from Thiokol, he worked at D&B Electric in Tremonton.

Mr. Castleton was an active member of th Tremonton 1st LDS Ward. He loved the gospel and being with people. His family was the joy of his life and he was a great dad. He had many friends of all ages and they all knew him affectionately as “Mel”.

Surviving are one son and two daughters and their spouses, Gary and Ruth Castleton, Salt Lake City; Melva and Lynn Crookston, Ogden; Maxine and Tom Boots, Tremonton; 24 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Leonard Castleton, Centerville; and Don Castleton, Preston, Idaho.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 1998, 11 a.m. at the Tremonton 1st and 11th Ward Chapel with Bishop Lyle Vance officiating. Friends may call Friday, June 5, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:15-10:30 a.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton.
