May Horton Beckstead, (1909)

May Horton Beckstead, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 17, 1996 holding the hand of her grand-daughter, Brook, of congestive heart failure.

She was born March 31, 1909 in Portage, Utah to Amos and Vilate Parkinson Hawks. She attended schools in Portage and Riverside, Idaho.

She married John Richard Horton in Blackfoot, Idaho on May 27, 1927. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on July 1, 1971. She married Warren Vic Beckstead on April 11, 1978.

May was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and worked as a primary teacher, visiting teacher, librarian and most recently, visiting teacher supervisor. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and serving others.

She devoted her life to her family, and had been a steadfast pillar of sacrifice, patience and love, She is loved and revered by all, and will be greatly missed by those who enjoyed her laughter, sense of humor, sweetness and friendship.

She is survived by her husband, Vic; five daughters, Sharon and Bob Jackson, Glena and Kent Martin, Illa and Craig Smith, Leona and Jack Loeffelbein Hawks, and Brenda and Bob Galloway; two brothers, John Clair and Neal Hawks; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death besides her husband, John, by her parents, two sons, Leon and Calvin, two sisters, Alta and Lela, a brother, Amos Delos, and a grand-daughter, Shirie LeeAnn.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 22, 1996 at 11 a.m., in the Princeton LDS Ward Chapel at 42 Princeton, with Bishop David K. Croshaw of the Pocatello LDS East Stake Second Ward officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday evening, Jan. 21, at the Henderson Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Ave., and from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
