Max Lee Call of Idaho Falls passed away Monday, May 23, 2016, at Parkwood Meadows Assisted Living Community of natural causes due to age. He was under the care of Encompass Hospice. He was born April 24, 1925, in Ogden, Utah, the son of Bertis Dee Call and Maude Irene Williams Call, the second oldest of four boys and three girls. He grew up in Malad, Idaho, and joined the Navy when he turned 18. He served in the Philippine Islands during World War II.

After the war, he attended Brigham Young University for two years, playing center on their football team. On Aug. 15, 1947, he married Cecilia Ruth Rutter in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He graduated from the University of Oregon with his architectural degree.

Max and Ruth chose Idaho Falls to work and their raise family because of the beautiful LDS temple and the scenic falls. He designed their homes on Syringa and John Adams and various schools, churches, banks and professional buildings throughout Idaho and neighboring states. Some of his work includes University Place, several buildings at BYU-ldaho and the Idaho Falls city office building. His architectural firm expanded with partners, Scott Nielson and Kevin Bodily.

Max was a true fix-it man. He enjoyed gardening, reunions, water fights and BYU sports. He loved spending time with his family, and he loved this country.

Max was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a variety of callings. He retired from work in 1994 to serve a mission with his wife in the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. Later, Max and Ruth worked in the Idaho Falls Temple for 15 years. He loved the Lord and was a true disciple of Christ throughout his life. He always found opportunities to share his testimony and serve others.

He is survived by the following: daughters, Deborah Schaefer of Idaho Falls, Cathryn (Darrell) Andelin of South Jordan, Utah, Teresa (David) Crapo of Bountiful, Utah, Laurel Wood of Caldwell, Idaho, and Patricia (Patrick) Duffin of Ammon, Idaho; sons, Bruce (Mary Lee) Call of Tucson, Ariz., and Steven (Jill) Call of Boise, Idaho; brother, Reed (Carolyn) Call of Provo, Utah; sisters, Anna (Grant) Peterson of Las Vegas, Nev, Carolyn (Dave) Williams of Minot, N.D., and Lois (Doug) Laws of Perry, Utah; 31 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Idaho Falls LDS Stake Center, 1155 First St. The family will visit with friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., in Idaho Falls, and from noon to 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by Bonneville County Veterans Team and Idaho Honor Guard
