MARY MORGAN ROBERTS

MARY ROBERTS CALLED

One of Pioneer Women of Malad Gone to Eternal Rest

Saturday evening [August 3, 1912] between seven and eight o’clock the soul of Mrs. Mary M.[Morgan] Roberts took flight to its eternal home, and one of the pioneer women of Malad valley bid farewell to this world of cares and trials. Mrs. Roberts had been ailing for several months, but though her death had been expected, her departure is mourned deeply by many relatives and friends.

Mrs. Roberts came to this country from her native land, South Wales [born May 10, 1834], in the year 1863, coming almost directly to Utah where she remained in Weber valley until the spring of 1865 when she came to Malad, then a community of less than a dozen families. Here she met and married David M. Roberts and together the couple withstood all the hardships and privations of pioneer life. Mrs. Roberts was past 78 years of age at the time of her death. She is survived by four sons and two daughters, all of whom reside in this valley, and all are well and favorably known.

Funeral services were held in the Tabernacle Tuesday afternoon and was attended by a large congregation of relatives and friends who assembled to pay a last tribute of respect to the departed lady who has always been held in the highest esteem by all who knew her. The speakers were Pres. W. H. Richards, and L. D., Brigham E. and F. E. Jones all of whom had known the deceased lady during the greater part of their lives, and all spoke in the highest terms of her many good qualities.

The music was furnished by the Tabernacle choir except for one special selection, a duett sung by Kate Evans Jones and Mary Evans Lewis.
