MARY LOU JONES

Mary Lou “Goose” Jones, long time resident of Malad, passed away on April 2, 2005, of natural causes. She was born June 14, 1925, in Malad, a daughter of Thomas T. “Goose” and Mary H Jones.

She was raised and educated in Malad and graduated from Malad High School. In 1945 she graduated from the Albion State Normal School and Mary Lou taught school in Lava Hot Springs and then Malad for several years.

She loved teaching and all things associated with it. She stopped teaching to stay home with her children before they were in school. After her children were school age she took the job of Malad Water Office and City Clerk. She worked at this job for 18 years and got to know almost everyone in the Malad Valley.

Mary Lou married Richard Keith Jones on June 30, 1947. They had two children Helen Marie Jones Farley (deceased) and Robert Keith (Ann) Jones Pocatello, Idaho.

She is survived by her son Robert and one brother Richard (Peggy) Jones, Pocatello, Idaho, and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith; daughter, Marie; parents, Tom and Mary; brother, Rollin T.; and sister, Merle Reynolds.

Mary Lou was a member of the Carefree Club for 56 years and enjoyed playing bridge with all the girls. She was also an avid golfer at one time.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and also an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary where she held all offices. Mary Lou had many close friends and was always honest and fair and taught these traits to her children. She would admit that she was a talker and would strike up a conversation with anyone near and willing to visit.

Mary Lou was greatly saddened by the death of her daughter in December; more than those of us around her could tell. She has returned to be with Marie, Keith, and her parents, and will be greatly missed by those of us left behind on earth.

Mary Lou has requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Oneida County Hospital or the charity of one’s choice.

Funeral services, as well as a memorial service for her daughter Marie, will be held Friday, April 8, at 12:00 noon in the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 West 300 North, Malad. Family will meet friends Thursday evening April 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 and before the services April 8. Burial will follow at the Malad City Cemetery.
