Mary Eliza Price Peterson

Mary Eliza Price Peterson, 90, of Logan, died Friday, June 12, 1992, in Tucson, Arizona. She was born March 26, 1902, in Malad City, Idaho, to Samuel Willard and Matilda Gleed Williams Price. She married John Elmer Peterson on November 25, 1925, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were parents of Karoleen Robles of Tucson, Arizona, and Don E. Peterson, deceased.

Mary graduated from high school n Malad, attended Idaho Tech in Pocatello, University of Idaho in Boise and graduated from Utah State Agricultural College in 1949. She taught school in Rigby and Grace, Idaho, prior to her 23 years of teach­ing in the Cache County Schools in North Logan and Providence. She was an elementary librarian and active on state and county education committees.

Following many active retirement years in Logan, Mary moved to Tucson where she has lived since 1989. As a member of the Logan 5th Ward for many years, Mary was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities in the auxiliaries. She served for several years as Stake Genealogical Secretary and was a missionary at the Logan Genealogical Library.

She served as an officiator at the Logan LDS Temple. She held membership in various clubs, including the Business and Professional Women’s group, American Association of University Women, Utah, and National Educational Association. She served as president of the local and state units of Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational sorority. Mary was honored in 1984 by the local chapter of the International Reading Association when they granted her the Literacy Award for her contributions through her many years of teaching.

Surviving are a daughter, Karoleen Robles, of Tucson, Arizona; granddaughters Mary Rebecca (Becky) Gunn of Fremont, California; Lori Stratton and Cami Evans, both of Tucson, Arizona; Teri Basteen of York, Arizona; one great-grandson, Marc Perkins, of Fremont, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 17 at noon in the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Logan City Cemetery.
