MALAD_Martin Martinez Jr., 72 died on the 11th of November, 2010, in Malad City, Idaho, from complications of a stroke he suffered in June. He was born in Logan, Utah, July 19, 1938, the sixth of 12 children born to Martin Martinez Sr., and Grace Cortez Martinez. He was preceded in death by three older siblings: Isabella, Juanita and Orlando, who died in infancy, and by his parents and younger brother, John.
He was reared in Ogden and attended Ben Lomond High School.
He married Sylvia Archer in Evanston, Wyoming, on the 13th of August, 1959. They were later divorced.
He is survived by three sons: Monte (Cheryl) Martinez, South Ogden, Utah; Steve Martinez, Brigham City, Utah; Matthew Martinez, Malad, Idaho, Idaho; and four grandchildren: Trayce, Christian, Braylynn and Max. Martin is also survived by five brothers, Stephen (Virginia) Martinez; Rick (Marcella) Martinez; Mickey (Francis) Martinez; David (Cindy) Martinez; Isaac Martinez; and two sisters, Madeline (Ed) Sandoval and Gracie (George) Brunner.
Dad loved to hunt and fish and had extensively explored the desert of northern Utah and southern Idaho. He was a talented musician and inventor, and enjoyed writing and entertaining his many friends. Over the course of his life he worked in various occupations, salesman, bill collector, and general contractor, finally retiring from the Union Pacific Railroad after 37 years of service.
Family will visit with friends and loved ones from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, the 19th of November, at Larkin Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah.
