Martha Kaye Sperry Marriott

MARRIOTT, MARTHA KAYE SPERRY, August 12, 1943 – March 9, 2004

Martha Kaye Marriott, 60, of Spring Lake died March 9, 2004 at her home. She was born August 12, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. She is the daughter of Wallace J. Sperry and Elsie Lewis. She married William David Marriott on June 25, 1964 in the Logan Temple.

She received her education from Bear River High School and then pursued an associate nursing degree which she completed at Weber State College in 1963. Later she finished her bachelor degree at Weber State College in 1997. Further various education pursuits included her obtaining a Master degree in Public Administration from BYU, Marriott business school in Provo, Utah.

Marty’s career roots were always centered in nursing and helping others. She began nursing as a staff nurse in pediatrics at McKay-Dee Hospital. For 13 years she served the people of Malad, Idaho at the local hospital and carried heavy responsibilities, including obstetrics and pediatrics. She was often urgently sought for her baby delivery expertise and today many hold her personal care in the utmost regard. After a move to Utah, she attended to Dr. Steve Johnson, OB and for a time served dually as a supervising nurse at Humana Hospital Davis North. Marty was promoted at Humana to the Quality Assurance Director. She was hired later by IHC to work in the corporate quality management department. In 1994 she transferred to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center as the Total Quality Management director. During her career she promoted quality health care and advocated patients rights. She was a member of the national quality assurance for health care and wrote many of the policies and procedure for Joint Commission and accreditation board.

Her love was her family and there remained her focus. Additionally, she was a talented pianist, enjoyed the arts, and being outdoors and in the mountains with family and friends. She was proficient with sewing and enjoyed making quilts and other crafts for family and friends. Many presently enjoy the sewing and craft labors of her efforts.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served many callings in the church. She worked tirelessly so that her sons could serve missions and was strongly converted to the work of the church and believed in its teachings with all of her heart.

Survivors include her husband, William of Provo; three children, Todd (Stacey) Marriott; Michele (Phillip) Taylor and Ryan (Kaylene) Marriott. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and is also survived by her mother, Elsie Sperry.

Funeral services are under the direction of Berg Mortuary in Provo and will be held March 13, 2004 in the Payson Stake Center. Burial will be in the Ogden cemetery.
