Marcus H. Thomas, (1932)

THOMAS, MARCUS H., February 4, 1932 – January 11, 2006

Marcus H. Thomas, passed away January 11, 2006 in Salt lake City. He was born February 4, 1932 in Pleasantview, ID, the son of Charles E. and Viola Thomas. He graduated from Malad High School. He served a mission to the Western States following graduation and a month after returning from his mission married JoAnn Lockyer, who he had dated during their last two years of high school.

After his marriage he served in the army, where he became interested in heavy construction, and it became his life-long vocation. He worked on many projects in the west, mostly in Arizona and Nevada. His favorite was the land fill and construction of the railroad track across the Salt Lake. During that time he worked many 12 to 14 hour days, seven days a week.

His family moved several times, and finally settled in the Reno, NV area. After his retirement in 1991, he and JoAnn moved to Whitefish, Montana, where they lived for ten years, then moved to Salt Lake in 2002.

To know him was to know of his talent and strong work ethic. His willingness to help extended beyond friends and family. He stopped to help strangers as they traveled.

He enjoyed traveling with his family, camping, water skiing, to Disneyland, and motor home trips to Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn and daughters Lori, Karla and Tracey; siblings, Hope Price, Renee Burgess, Charles E. Thomas, Jr., Gayle Walker, Criesta Bytheway and Polly Steenblik.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, DeEtte.

Graveside services were held in Reno on Tuesday, January 17, 2006.
