Lyman B. Wight passed away Monday, December 2, 1991
Born August 1, 1924, in Malad, Idaho to Lyman A. and Mary Bennett Wight. He attended BYU for three years, served in the Quartermaster Corp of the U.S. Army from May 1943 until March of 1946. He spent two years of this time in England, France and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart and an honorable discharge in 1946.
He married Betty Harrison in May 1943, and the marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in September 1968. He lived in American Fork for 24 years where he was vice-president of Chipman Merc and was very active in civic affairs. He received the Distinguished Service award and President of the Year Award for the state Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1954. He was merchandise manager for the Paris Company from 1963 until 1965, when he opened his own clothing store in October 1965 in American Fork. He later opened stores in Logan, Ogden, Layton and Bountiful.
He has the respect and love of all who worked with him as a talented and competent merchant for 40 years. He has fought a long, hard battle for 11 years with Alzheimer’s. He volunteered his past four years to the research program conducted at Mt. Sinai and Bronx Veterans Hospital in New York City.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, two sons, Gary and Dan, and a daughter, Julie; his mother, Mary Wight; brother, Frank, of Ogden; Sisters Mary Alice of Smithfield; and Helen Keller of Brigham City. He has eight loving grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, December 6, 12 noon, at Canyon Park Ward, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful. Friends may call Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East, and 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the church Friday. Interment, Centerville City Cemetery.
