Former Samaria Resident Dies in Salt Lake

Salt Lake City – Lewis Joseph Bowen, 86, of 667 E. 9th South, brother of Elder Albert E. Bowen of the Council of Twelve, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Thursday (19 Sep 1952) at 1:30 p.m. In a Salt Lake Hospital. Death was attributed to causes incident to age.

Mr. Bowen had been active in the Church and for a number of years was a member of the bishopric of Samaria, Idaho ward. Most of his life was spent in Samaria.

A native of Salt Lake City, he was born Dec. 5, 1865, a son of David and Annie Shackelton Bowen. In 1912, he married Margaret Hunter in Salt Lake City. She died Sept. 2, 1938.

During his residence in Salt Lake City, Mr. Bowen was a member of the Salt Lake First ward. He had been an active worker in the Temples for many years.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Walter C. (Beth) Larson, Salt Lake City; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary B. Hawkins, Salt Lake City, and Miss Edith Bowen, Logan; four brothers, Albert E. and C. F. Bowen, Salt Lake City; John Bowen, Pocatello, and Walter Bowen, American Fork.
