Leo Everett Bullock

McCammon, Idaho….Leo Everett Bullock, 86, lifelong resident of Readyville and McCammon, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 6, 2009. Leo was born on June 20, 1923, at the family home in Readyville, west of McCammon. He was the seventh of ten sons born to Willard Edwin Bullock and Sarah Mabel Barrow Bullock. He received his first eight years of schooling in Readyville and finished his education and graduated from the McCammon School in 1941. He married Helen M. Romriell on January 19, 1943, and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple on October 4, 1991. Helen passed away in 2000, and Leo later married Venda Beckstead in 2004. They were later divorced.

In October 1943, Leo was called to serve in the U. S. Army, but after 4 months , due to health issues, he was given an honorable medical discharge. After his release from the service, Leo and Helen moved to Pocatello for a short time while Leo worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and the Naval Ordinance Plant (NOP), and Helen worked for Mountain Bell Telephone Co.. They were not impressed with city life, so in 1949 they moved back to McCammon where they raised their six children. Leo built their home on Bannock Street where he still resided at the time of his passing.

Leo was always an avid sportsman, but his first love was baseball, and he played and managed the McCammon baseball team. When the NOP closed, Leo became a carpenter, and he has never put his hammer down since. He was always civic minded, and served on the McCammon City Council, the Sewer Association Board of Directors, and he was the rodeo announcer for the Marsh Valley Rodeo for 35 years and was the chairman of the rodeo committee for many years.

Leo was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his six children, Jerry (Norma) and Wayne (Vicki) of McCammon, Susan (Jerry) Barrington and Vicki (Lyndy) Williams of Blackfoot, Janet (Steve) Kimpton of Preston, and Douglas (Mindy) of Boise, 21 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers Stanley and Lynn both of McCammon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, his parents, seven brothers, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the McCammon Stake Center. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo, and again from 9:30-10:30a.m. prior to the service on Friday. Interment will follow at the Norton Cemetery.
