Larry Eugene Tuttle, (1936)

TUTTLE, LARRY EUGENE, May 18, 1936 – December 24, 2008

NORTH OGDEN – Larry Eugene Tuttle, beloved by his family, as a husband, father and grandfather, passed away on December 24, 2008. He was born of goodly parents on May 28, 1936 in Salt lake City, Utah. Larry was the second of three children born to Mildred Anice and Eugene Kenneth Tuttle.

Our father graduated from Ogden High School in 1954. After graduation he worked in northern Idaho for the Forest Service. Larry attended Mesa Junior College. After a year of study, he transferred to BYU. After a year of study at BYU, he was called by the Lord to serve an LDS mission in Western Canada.

When he returned from his mission, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserve. He then enrolled again at BYU. He worked in the university library as a research asst., specializing in American Indian Studies. When our father completed his enlistment in the Army Reserve Medical Corps, he had risen to the rank of Sergeant. Larry graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Anthropology in 1964. It was at this time that he met the love of his life, JoAnn Gleed. After a short engagement, they were married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on September 10, 1965.

Larry accepted a teaching position working for the Dept. of Indian Affairs on the Navajo Indian Reservation. Larry enjoyed teaching the Navajo children placed in his charge. Larry taught 4th, 5th and 6th graders in a small elementary school located in Cove, Arizona. After teaching for a year on the reservation, he returned to Ogden, Utah in 1968. He taught 5th grade students for a year in Sunset, Utah and then he accepted employment teaching Physical and Earth Science in the Ogden City Schools. He completed a Masters of Education degree at BYU and later completed an Administrative Certificate at USU. Our father then advanced to Asst. Principal at Ben Lomond High School. After several years he was then assigned as Principal at Edison Elementary School. His last assignment was to work in the Ogden District Office where he worked for several years, retiring in 1996 after 30 years of service.

Our father was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the following callings: High Priest, Ward Clerk, First and Second Counselor in his ward bishopric, Young Men’s president, and as Sunday School and Primary teacher.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, his mother, a sister, Cherie, and a brother, Rodney. His wife, JoAnn Gleed, passed away on November 21, 2001.

He is survived by his three sons: Shawn (Randie); Mike; and Shane (Tiffany) Tuttle; and his six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Ben Lomond 10th Ward, Ogden, UT. Interment, North Morgan Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
