Kleal J. Price

Malad-Kleal Jones Price, 64, 147 W. 300 N., Malad, died Thursday, March 21, 1985, in the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born April 8, 1920, in Malad, to John Lionel and Ann Ella Jones Price. He grew up and was educated in Malad, graduating from Malad High School.

A lifelong Malad resident, he served in the Army in World War II.

He married Jayne Evans April 11, 1938, in Pocatello.

He farmed for several years in the Daniel and St. John areas in the Malad Valley. He was employed with Morton Thiokol for over 25 years and for two years as a quality assurance supervisor, involved in several of the solid propellant missile programs, and had received awards for contributions to safety and production. He was directly involved as the quality assurance supervisor in NASA’s first space shuttle conducted at Cape Kennedy.

He was a member of the American Legion for 37 years, serving as post commander. He received a citation for meritorious service. He also served on the local Selective Service board. He was a member and past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the LDS Church.

He is survived by his wife, Malad; three sons, Kleal J. Price, West Valley, Utah; Brad Price, Provo, Utah; Richard M. Price, currently serving in an LDS mission in Brazil; three daughters, Mrs. Lowell (Deanna) Budge, Pittsburgh, California; Mrs. Marvin (Sandra) Hess, Malad; Mrs. Eric (Debby) Thomas, Bothell, Washington; one sister, Mrs. Wally (Chloe) Coffman, Concord, California; 25 grandchildren; and 16 great-children. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, three brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 23, 1985 at 12 o’clock noon in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating.

Casket bearers were sons and sons-in-law, Kleal J. Price, Richard Price, Marvin Hess, Brad Price, Lowell Budge and Eric Thomas.

Honorary bearers were brothers-in-law, Bob Evans, Melvin Evans, Ed Evans and Rex Evans.

The family prayer was given by his son Brad Price and the prelude and postlude music was played by Carla Williams.

The invocation was offered by his brother-in-law, Rex Evans and his life sketch was told by grandson, Mike Hess.

A vocal trio consisting of Tracy Ward, granddaughter, Julie Williams and Rhonda Crowther and accompanied by Emma Ward sang “O My Father”, after which Governor John V. Evans spoke.

A musical duet was performed by Lisa Atkinson and Lorna Edwards, granddaughters, followed by remarks offered by Bishop Clarence Kent.

The benediction was given by his brother-in-law, Perry Bird.

Concluding services were in the Malad City Cemetery with E. Spence Horsley offering the dedicatory prayer. The American Legion Ernest W. Jones Post #65 performed military rites.

Care of flowers was by his granddaughters and nieces and the Fourth Ward Relief Society, Gloria Gleed, President.
