JOSEPH V. LYKINS

WASHINGTON TERRACE — Joseph Valentine Lykins, 67, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1992 at St. Benedict’s Hospital of lung cancer.

He was born Aug. 30, 1925 in Malad, Idaho, a son of James Valentine and Mary Blanche Jones Lykins.

He married Zola Tanner on Dec. 27, 1947 in Scarsdale, N.Y. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on March 13, 1992.

He was raised and educated in Malad, Idaho and attended Weber State University.

He was a member of the Washington Terrace 3rd LDS Ward. He had served in many positions and especially loved teaching, having taught the Gospel Doctrine Class for marry years.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving with the U.S. Navy for 22 and one-half years, retiring as a Senior Chief.

Mr. Lykins worked for Friden Co., Singer Co. and TRW, retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Toastmasters. He loved the outdoors and fishing. He was loved and respected by all who knew him well.

Surviving are his wife of Washington Terrace; three sons and one daughter, James Lykins, Tustin, Calif.; Allan and Angela Lykins, Portland, Ore.; David and Frances Lykins, Salt Lake City; Mary Ellen and Duane Doutel, San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother and two sisters, James D. Lykins, Roy; Mrs. Blanche Hull, Missoula, Mont.; Mrs. Maxey Clark, San Leandro, Calif.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Lykins.

He loved his family very much and took special joy in his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Robin Rose of the Washington Terrace 3rd Ward, officiating.

Friends may call at the mortuary Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gar­dens of the Wasatch where Military Honors will be accorded.
