JACK RODERICK

MALAD – John Jay (Jack) Roderick, 69, of Malad, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2000 at the home of a sister, Andy and Patsy Bybee.

He was born March 8,1930, the son of John J. and Vera Price Roderick. He attended schools in Samaria and Pleasantview, Idaho, and graduated from Malad High School and Utah State Agricultural College. Jack did two years of post-graduate work at BYU. He worked at Utah State and BYU in the library and journalism departments.

He worked for a short time in California for a bookstore. He later owned and operated his own bookstore specializing in rare and out-of-print books as well as LDS books. He had several articles published in church magazines as well as other magazines.

Jack was high priest in the St. Johns LDS First Ward. Jack attended the temple regularly while his health permitted. He had a strong testimony.

Jack had suffered with cerebral palsy all his life, and had been blind and bedridden for the last 20 years.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, John J. and Mary Emma Roderick; his sister, Patsy (Andrew) Bybee and three step-brothers and four step-sisters, Farrel (Eileen) Williams, Bartley (Carol) Williams, Michael (Jean) Williams, Marylyn (Rees) Roundy, Rosalee Lamb, Julie (Mont) Waldron and Jeanetta (Darrel) Hazen; also eight nephews and nieces, whom he thought the world of, Todd and Latricia Bybee, Brad and Tracy Norr, Chad and DaNeil Bybee, Gregory and Roslynn Bybee, Nolan and Pam Gunnell, Greg and Monica Perry, Corey and Ruth Bybee and Alexis Boot. He was preceded in death by his mother and one great-nephew, Nathan Bybee.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 9 at noon at the LDS Second Ward Chapel in Malad. The family will meet with friends tonight, Tuesday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home in Malad, and also on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
