John Goddard

GODDARD, JOHN, October 1, 1907 – February 16, 1958

Funeral Services were held Wednesday for John Goddard, 50, of Brigham City and former Malad resident, who died Sunday evening in the Oneida Hospital of head injuries sustained in a fall, Feb. 8th. Bishop Colen H. Sweeten, Jr., conducted the services in the Malad Fourth Ward.

William H. Rutter offered the prayer at the home. Emma S. Ward played the prelude and postlude music. Speakers were Bishop Sweeten who also read the obituary, Wm. W. Thomas and Floyd Copen, Jr. Prayers were offered by Moyle Facer and Newell Nish. Vocal numbers were sung by Louis Yearsley, Don and Mary Alice Williams and the ward brothers. Walt Howard dedicated the grave.

Flowers were carried by the Malad Fourth Ward Relief Society. Casket bearers were Gordon Reynolds, Jimmy Goddard, Bill Hill, Gene Bailey, Farron Goddard and martin Cutler.

Interment was in the Malad cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Goddard was employed by the Fife Construction Co. in Brigham City and was a member of the LDS Church.

He was born October 1, 1907 in Malad, a son of Martin and Ruth Ann Thomas Goddard. He was reared and educated in Malad. On September 14, 1928, he married Pearl Dalton in Malad. She died October 26, 1953. He married Virginia C. Hill on June 25, 1954 in Afton, WY.

Surviving are his widow, Brigham City; two sons, Martin D. Goddard, Kearns; G. Joseph Goddard, Bountiful; four grandchildren, eight sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Millie Strouse and Mrs. June Thompson, East Ely, NV; Mart Goddard, Mrs. Elizabeth Reynolds and Mrs. Charlotte Koer, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Irene Richards, Inglewood, CA; Mrs. Ruth Copen, Ely, NV; Leland and Fred Goddard, Malad; Mrs. Anna Nish, Plymouth, UT; Mrs. Jennie Bailey, Magna.
