OGDEN – John Daniels Williams, 82, died Tuesday, March 8, 1994 at St. Benedict’s Hospital following a long illness.
He was born June 15, 1911 in Malad, Idaho, a son of John Smart and Anna Eliza Daniels Williams.
He married Bernice Davenport on Oct. 24, 1935 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He had resided in Malad, Pocatello and Burley, Idaho for five years. He graduated from Malad High School in 1932. He also graduated from the American School of Practipedics. He resided in Tremonton and Elwood, Utah for five years and in Ogden for the past 48 years.
He was a member of the Kingston LDS Ward where he was a High Priest. He served three Stake Missions and was a teacher in many capacities. He was President of the Elder’s Quorum, Ward Clerk, served on the Stake Welfare Board and was an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple.
He managed openings of local and out-of-state shoe stores. He worked for Union Pacific Mail Terminal, Pacific Fruit Express and was an iron worker for Intermountain Iron Workers Union. Mr. Williams was a conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad retiring in 1977 after 36 years of service.
He was a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. One of his greatest loves was horses and he was a member of the Weber County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and the Union Pacific Employee Club #6.
Surviving are his wife of Ogden; two sons, John D. Jr. and wife Annette Williams, South Ogden; Richard D. and wife Sue Williams, Uintah; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister, Mrs. Jeanette Josephson, Plymouth, Utah.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Maud Call and two brothers, Leo D. Williams and Darrell Williams.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Robert Moesinger of the Kingston Ward officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 10 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
