Joel A. Smith, 77

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Holbrook LDS Ward Chapel for Joel A. Smith, 77, who died Thursday in the Veterans Hospital at Salt Lake City of natural causes.

Mr. Smith was born January 27, 1897, in Fielding, Utah, a son of Willard R. and Melissa Packer Smith. He married Ada Larsen, June 4, 1924, in the Logan LDS Temple. He was a farmer, a veteran of World War I, and member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include his widow of Holbrook; four daughters, Mrs. Claron (Barbara) McGhie of San Jose, Calif., Mrs. William (Joyce) Wyatt of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Walter (Colleen) Williams of Porterville, Utah and Mrs. Arlo (Janet) Dean of Mountainview, Wyo.; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five brothers, Willard of Holbrook, Lott of Salt Lake City, J. Brian of Bountiful, Utah, and Stephen L., and Karl M., both of Malad; three sisters, Mrs. George (Maud) Burton of Malad and Mrs. Joseph (Nan) Bennett and Mrs. W. Ray (Velma) Wight of Ogden, Utah.

Bishop Wells Willie officiated at services Monday in Holbrook LDS Ward Chapel. Speakers were Bishop Waldo Blaisdell, President Lynn S. Richards, Bishop Willie and Velma S. Wight, who read the obituary. Vocal solos were presented by Don Eliason and Doyle Cutler and quartet, by Don and Carol Eliason and Wells and Marsha Willie. Melody Williams played a piano solo. Family prayer was offered by William J. Wyatt; invocation, President S. L. Smith, and benediction, Bishop Melvin G. Larsen. Mrs. Iris Hill was the accompanist and also played prelude and postlude music.

At Holbrook Cemetery, Walter Kent Williams offered the Dedicatory prayer.

Holbrook Ward Relief Society, Carol Eliason, president, was in charge of the flowers.

Honorary bearers were Mitchell Williams, John Paul Wyatt, Gregg Cloward, Jerry McGhie, Von McGhie and High Priests.

Casket Bearers were Kirk Williams, Todd Wyatt, Lamar Wyatt, Sid Williams, Brent Wyatt, Brian Wyatt, Kurt Cloward and Bret Cloward.

Military Rites were Conducted by American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.

Benson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
