Friends may visit with the Quam family for the visitation and viewing Monday prior to services from 10:30-11:45 am.

Jennie Lucille Farnsworth Quam passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010 and returned to her Heavenly home to her many family and friends who went before her. She was 87 years old and was born on June 22, 1922 to Robert Earl Farnsworth and Sara Agatha Stephens in Burley, Idaho.
She was the oldest of three surviving children: Jennie Lucille, Muriel Virginia and Robert Stephen. Little Sarah, born prematurely on April 20, 1921, lived only one hour.
Jennie attended school in Burley, Twin Falls, Logan, and Sacramento, graduating from Missoula Count High School in Missoula, Montana in 1939 in the upper sixth of a class of 310 students. She went on to earn her degree in Home Economics and Institutional Management from the University of Montana, graduating in 1943. The remainder of 1943 and 1944 were spent at King County Hospital in Seattle, Washington where she completed her Dietician internship.
Jennie then entered military service with the U.S. Army in May of 1944 and was stationed at McCaw General Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. She was promoted to a First Lieutenant and sent overseas to the Philippines on December 18, 1945 and spent one month at a replacement depot before going to Korea. She was always very proud to have been part of the movement to liberate Korea from Japanese and Russian rule. Jennie served as a Dietician under the 24th Corp in General Hospital and returned to the States two years later in December of 1947. She was stationed at Fitzsimons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado as a Dietician until May of 1951. During this time, she was promoted to the office of Captain. Jennie transferred to Indian Town Gap, Pennsylvania and later to Camp Picket, Virginia and in December 1953 was transferred for the final time to Madigan General Hospital at Tacoma, Washington. She resigned her commission as Captain in the U.S. Army in December 1955 and looked forward to raising a family.
Jennie taught school in McCammon and Salmon, Idaho. She spent nearly 18 years as the Director of the Greater Pocatello Senior center where they were known for their excellent meals and melt-in-the mouth rolls. It was here she really taught her family the meaning of service as they volunteered to help serve the Thanksgiving meals at the Center. After final retirement, Jennie would continue to serve by making cakes for birthdays in her neighborhood. She bought Angel Food cake mixes by the case.
Jennie was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved the gospel and had an amazing understanding of the scriptures. Genealogy and its associated temple work, along with family history were very important and something Jennie spent a great deal of time on after retirement. She was involved in the home extraction program after she moved to Malad.
Jennie loved china painting and the friendships she formed there. She shared that passion with her daughter, Kathy, whose most valued project is the urn that will be used to safely envelop her mothers remains.
Jennie married Elmer Alvin Quam on December 20, 1949 in Missoula, Montana at the Episcopal Church during a terrible snow storm. They met years earlier while both Jennie and Elmer were stationed in Korea. Elmer joined the L.D.S. Church years later and they were sealed for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls temple on April 29, 1975. Elmer preceded Jennie in death on March 30, 1987 from complications due to Multiple Sclerosis. Parents, siblings, husband, Cousin Robert and dear friend Lillian preceded Jennie in death and were there to welcome her home.
Jennie is survived by her children, Kathy (Brad) Williams of Malad and Robert Quam of Pocatello. She has also enjoyed many trips and parties that have included her three grandchildren and their families: Shawn and Brook Williams with Brenna, Cole and Evvie of Malad; Teauna and Mike Clark with Bradey and Makenzie of Weston; and Ciara Knudsen of Walla Walla, Washington. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
“Beautiful dreamer, queen of my song, List while I woo thee with soft melody; Gone are the cares of life’s busy throng, Beautiful dreamer, awake unto me; Beautiful dreamer awake unto me!”
A small memorial service for Jennie’s family and friends was held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 12 noon at the Horsley Funeral Home in Arimo, Idaho. Burial at the Norton Cemetery in McCammon will take place at a later date following cremation.
The family of Jennie wishes to thank all those kind and compassionate people involved in her care in any way these last couple of years. What wonderful blessings you have been in our lives!!!
