Buddy Payne dies September 14
Jay Burton “Buddy” Payne, 17, died Friday, September 14,[1984] in a single-car accident on the old Fish Creek Road east of Lava Hot Springs. He was born to Kenneth G. and Roberta Burke Payne on May 29, 1967. He had lived in Bancroft until he was 13 and had attended North Gem School, where he participated in the band, sports, and 4-H before moving to Inkom in 1981. He was a senior at Marsh Valley High School and was working at the K&R Village Mart.
He was a member of the 40th Ward LDS Church and his bobbies included motorbike riding, fishing, skiing, and hunting.
Survivors include his parents of Black Rock; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell F. Davis, Black Rock; Wilton G. Payne, Bancroft; two sisters, Jodi Payne, Black Rock; and Mrs. Aaron (Judy) Collins, Inkom. He was preceded in death by a brother, a grandmother, and a grandfather.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, at the Inkom LDS Chapel at 2 p.m. George Payne of the Bancroft LDS Ward will be officiating. Burial is to be in the Bancroft Cemetery.
