James William Fisher, Sr.

FISHER, JAMES WILLIAM, SR., February 9, 1937 – May 16, 2008

James William Fisher, Sr., beloved brother, father, grandfather and friend passed away resting peacefully in his home after a long hospital stay on May 16, 2008.

Jim was born February 9, 1937 to Otto and Virginia Fisher in Columbia Falls, Montana. He played high school football in Troy, Montana and jockeyed racehorses as a teenager. After high school Jim joined the United States Navy and served his country from 1955-69 as a Boiler Fireman aboard numerous ships and as an aid to an Admiral his last three years of active duty.

In May, 1957, he married Nora Mae Morris, his wife of 49 years and together they created and raised their five children: Diana Lynne Overstreet of Malad, Idaho; James William Fisher, Jr., of Salt Lake City, Utah; Kevin Dwayne Fisher of Bountiful, Utah; Kim Noreen Fisher Finn of Phoenix Arizona; and Christopher Michel Fisher of Gunnison, Utah.

Throughout his working years Jim worked as a cabinet maker, logger and later as a heating and cooling maintenance supervisor for companies such as Brush Wellman (Delta, Utah), Salt River Project (Page, Arizona), and Fairchild Air Force Base (Spokane, Washington). After retiring from S.R.P. as a Safety Supervisor, Jim went on to become a truck driver and was over the road enjoying these United States until 1992 when he took on the responsibility of raising his grandson Damian Joseph Fisher.

From 1992-2006 he worked as a local delivery driver in the Salt Lake Valley. Jim moved to Malad City after the passing of his wife in 2006. He made many friends and was always willing to give a helping hand to those in need.

Throughout his life he played an active role in boys’ and girls’ clubs as well as other youth activities. He coached boxing, football, and Little League even after his own children were grown.

Jim was a hard working common man who grew up in an era where your work ethics set your path in life. Although he struggled with many things in his life he would not allow the adversities to get him down. Coming from a family of ten children he learned at an early age the importance of loving your family, strong will, kindness and compassion for all in your life and those you have yet to meet.

He is survived by his three brothers and one sister; Bob, Alvin, Chuck and Linda Fisher; his five children; 18 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A Memorial Service was held in Malad on May 24, 2008 at Horsley Funeral Home. A future Memorial Service will be held in Spokane, Washington later in the summer for family, co-workers and friends.
