Iva Viola Hancock Denney

DOWNEY – Iva Viola Hancock Denney, 94 of Downey, passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in the Franklin County Nursing Home, Preston.

She was born August 30, 1906, tin Downey, a daughter of Alvin Cyrus and Lonetta Criddle Hancock. She grew up and was educated in Downey, was a graduate of Downey High School, and later received her LPN.

She married Edward Leroy Denney June 29, 1926, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They farmed and ranched in the Virginia area until Mr. Denney passed away in 1944.

Iva worked as a nurse at the Marsh Valley Hospital in Downey for several years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in various callings. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and also a member of the Downey Madrigal Choir.

Iva is survived by one daughter Frances (John) Harker of Shelley, Idaho; four sons, Arden Denney of Sunset, Utah, Kay (Lois) Denney of Ogden, Utah; Thayle (Helen) Denney of Orange, California; and Lynn (Dixie) Denney of Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Vanderwood of Malad, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Larry Denney, several grandchildren, one brother and one sister.

Funeral services will be held o Saturday, August 4, 2001, at 1 p.m. in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel Friends may call at the church o Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Arrangements are by Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, Arimo.
