Irene Owens Chivers dies at Soda Springs

Irene Owens Chivers, age 98, passed away February 14 (1982), in Soda Springs. She was born March 20, 1883, in Malad, to John and Mary Jane Thomas Owens. Irene married Thomas C. Chivers on January 1, 1902, in Malad. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. He died June 5, 1958. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas Chivers. Irene was an active member of the LDS Church. She served in many auxiliaries of the church including Relief Society President of the Malad 2nd Ward. She was an active member of many service clubs for many years. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors and DUP. Survivors include 3 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, February 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the Malad Stake Center.

The family prayer was given by Darrell Swartz; Prelude, Postlude, Tammy Williams; conducting, Bishop Clarence Kent; Invocation, Frank Owens; obituary and tribute, Lou Thomson; Piano Solo, Irene Chivers, speakers, Harold E. Thomas and Tom Chivers; organ selection, Tammy Williams; Benediction, Oren Jones.

Calvin Criddle dedicated the grave. Interement (sp. Interment) was in the Malad City Cemetary (sp. Cemetery). Casket Bearers; Roy Thomson, Tom Chivers, Pharon Apgood, Jack Evans, Rex Evans, Verl Udy; Honorary Casket Bearers: Clair Owens, Cecil Evans, Lynn Evans and Frank Vanover.
