Hyrum E. Lewis

BLACKFOOT – Hyrum E. Lewis, 80, of Blackfoot, died Sunday, September 20, 1998, at his home from heart failure.

He was born December 7, 1917 in Malad, Idaho to Hyrum W. Lewis and Sarah Evans Lewis. Hyrum spent his younger years in the Arbon Valley area, graduating from Malad High School.

He married Ruth Iola Firkins on March 6, 1946 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls temple on February 17, 1956. Ruth preceded him in death October 31, 1991.

Hyrum farmed, ranched an also worked at Basic American Foods for a number of years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as high priest group leader, as a temple worker, and worked in the extraction program.

His hobbies included fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed visiting with his family and friends.

Hyrum is survived by one son, Brent (Kathy) Lewis of Blackfoot; three daughters, Connie (Douglas) Jackson of Rupert, Idaho, LaRue (Scott) Santos of Richfield, Utah, and Julie (John) Cronin of Blackfoot; two brothers, Harry Neil Lewis of Pocatello, Ralph F. Lewis of Panama; one sister, Mae Wood, of Blackfoot; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, Earl and Paul, and one sister, Alice.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 25, 1998 at the Riverside LDS Third Ward Chapel, with Bishop Mark Leavitt conducting. The family will meet with friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 1998, at the Hill, Hawker and Sandberg Funeral Home, and again for one hour prior to the services at the church Friday. Interment will be in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
