Horace Sweeten Garn, 17 November 1917

ST. GEORGE, UT – Horace Sweeten Garn, age 84, died May 18, 2002 at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

He was born November 17, 1917 inOgden, UT to Horace Augustus and Chole Sweeten Garn. He married Emmadean Jones on July 27, 1942 in Malad, ID. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.

Horace was raised in Holbrook, ID and went to school at West High, Salt Lake City, UT. Horace served a mission in the Southwest. After spending four years in the US Navy, he re-enlisted at the outbreak of World War Ii and served in the South Pacific Theater. He worked at the Tooele Ordinance Depot after the war.

He and Emmadean later moved to Rockland, ID where they lived for six years before moving to Salt Lake City. They raised their children in Salt Lake City. After his retirement in 1989, they moved to Hurricane, UT.

Horace’s loves in life were hunting and fishing with his sons and deep sea fishing in Mexico. He enjoyed gardening, learning to play the organ and painting. In his later years he enjoyed the gospel, his new friends and serving his Heavenly Father.

Surviving family include Stephen (Linda) Garn of Woods Cross, UT; Jay Garn of Salt Lake City, UT; Mike (Chris) Garn of Woods Cross, UT; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emmadean.

Funeral services will be held May 22, 2002 at the Hurricane 11th and 13th Ward Chapel. Interment will be held at the Hurricane City Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George, UT.
