History of Commis Cock and others

Commis Cock (red common) Cemmes, Montgomery, the son of David Griffiths and Catherine Owens.  His trade was gardening.  His father was born in 1786 in Cemmes and was a seedsman.  His mother was christened 18 July 1785 at Penegoes, Montgomery, the daughter of Hugh Owens and Catherine David.

Elizabeth Jones als Davis was born 23 September 1822 at Llanegin or Ddolgolly Merioneth, Wales, the daughter of Edward Davis and Margaret Owens.  There seems to be some confusion as to what her maiden name was because on her daughter’s birth certificate, she is listed as Jones and her son was known as David Jones Griffiths, but when she was endowed on 28 September 1867, she stated her name was Elizabeth Davis Griffiths.  Her son’s patriarchal blessing states he is David Jones Griffiths, son of David and Elizabeth Griffiths, born 11 September 1843.

Machynlleth, son of David and Elizabeth Griffiths, did temple work for Edward Davis and Louisa Jones, who were the grandparents of Elizabeth Griffiths, the mother of Elizabeth Griffiths Davis.  The mother was sealed to Owen Thomas 12 January 1869 at the Endowment.  It is confusing, to say the least.

Elizabeth, her parents and her brother, David came to Zion.  It is not known how they got here, but they did.  Somewhere perhaps at a gathering of the Welsh converts, Elizabeth saw David for the first.  He was older than her by sixteen years.  He was about five foot eight, stockily built, weighing about 180 pounds.  His eyes were blue and his beard made a frame for his strong mouth.  He saw a tall woman with her dark brown hair pulled back in a severe bun, strictly in fashion, but her blue eyes belied the seriousness of her hair.
