Funeral Services for Heber Pratt

Heber G. Pratt, 78, died May 16 [1983] at his home in Downey. He was born to Samuel and Olive Lora Henderson Pratt on February 11, 1905 in Downey. He was educated in Downey and lived on a farm that the family had homesteaded south-east of Downey.

On August 24, 1927 he married Laura Gooch in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After their marriage they moved to Inkom and operated a farm. In 1944 they moved back to Downey where he purchased his father’s farm and he lived there until his death.

Active for 25 years in the 4-H program he also began the Blue Ribbon Beef Growers Club. He was devoted to young people and had received numerous honors and awards for his leadership. He was known for his expert horsemanship and loved working with his livestock. For several years he coached boys baseball in Downey. He was a member and past president of the Downey’s Lion Club.

He is survived by his wife, Downey; two sons, L. Leon Pratt and Coy H. Pratt, both of Downey; one daughter, LeEtta[sic] Pratt, Richmond, Virginia; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ray Pratt, Verl Pratt and Gerald Pratt, all of Pocatello; two sisters, Mrs. Vera Burrup and Mrs. Ivy Woodland, both of Inkom. He was preceded in death by two children, Ona[sic] June and Jay.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 19, in the Downey Second LDS Ward chapel with Bishop Morgan Evans officiating. Funeral arrangements were made by the Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo and burial was in the Downey Cemetery.
